Shanghai, June 17 (Gasgoo.com) Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., Ltd. (JAC) will launch its 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission in March 2013.
If everything goes on schedule, JAC will be the first local automaker to launch the dual-clutch transmission in China, Ren Guoqing, deputy director of the JAC R & D Center, said last week.
Reportedly, the city government of Hefei, where JAC is based, granted the automaker 50 million ($7.3 million) to develop the dual-clutch automatic transmission products on December 22 2008. JAC did not disclose details of the development, sources of the transmission modules or the dual-clutch transmission technology in the interview.
In China, automatic transmissions are still considered high-tech products and the suppliers are predominantly foreign companies or their joint ventures. Hence, the country's carmakers presently are heavily dependent on some major global automatic transmission producers.
