Shanghai July 22 (Gasgoo.com) Jianghuai Auto Co. (JAC) has started small-scale production of electric and hybrid vehicles in Hefei, Anhui province, media reported yesterday.

Eight energy-saving car models from Jianghuai's Tojoy (Tongyue) and Yueyue brands were recently listed among the 71 models approved for the green-car subsidies from the Chinese government, along with new energy vehicle models by other automakers such as BYD, Changan Ford Mazda and Beijing Hyundai.

Jianghuai Auto has started small-scale production of its electric sedans and hybrid sedans in its headquarters city of Hefei, which is one of the dozen pilot cities in China to subsidize buyers of electric and hybrid vehicles. The company plans to put its green cars to the market as soon as possible.

At the end of last month, China approved 16 automakers in the country, including local companies and joint ventures, to receive the government's clean-energy subsidy of 3,000 yuan ($441) for each green vehicle sold.

In the first half of the year, Jianghuai Auto's vehicle sales surged 67.21% from a year earlier to 243,570 units. In June alone, the Anhui-based automaker's sales hit 33,356 units, up 33.07% year on year.

Jianghuai Auto, which is expanding into the passenger car sector, expects to sell 500,000 vehicles this year (from 198,500 units in 2009), including 300,000 passengers cars.
