At a technology update event held the same day, HIMA unveiled a new version of the S800 equipped with what it described as the world's first mass-produced 896-line LiDAR system. The upgraded sensor suite is designed to enhance detection of small, low-reflectivity and irregularly shaped obstacles. According to the company, the system can identify objects as low as 14 cm from a distance, while detection ranges for low-reflective targets such as fallen tires have improved by 190 percent. Recognition capability for atypical obstacles, including sideways traffic cones, has increased by 77%.
The MAEXTRO S800 is jointly developed by Huawei and JAC Group. Hitting the market on May 30, 2025, the model debuted in four trims, with prices ranging from 708,000 yuan to 1,018,000 yuan. Selected variants are available in both battery-electric and extended-range configurations, reflecting the alliance's dual-track power strategy in the premium segment.
Early demand was brisk. The company said firm orders exceeded 1,000 units within the first hour of launch, climbed to 1,600 within 24 hours and surpassed 2,600 in three days. Within 19 days, cumulative orders had crossed the 5,000-unit mark, underscoring strong initial market interest.
Positioned as a D-plus segment flagship sedan, the MAEXTRO S800 measures 5,480 mm in length with a 3,370 mm wheelbase, placing it firmly in the full-size luxury category. Among its standout features are intelligent powered doors that integrate millimeter-wave radar and solid-state LiDAR to detect static and moving obstacles, automatically adjusting the opening angle up to 77 degrees. The vehicle also incorporates a dynamic welcome light carpet designed to enhance the premium user experience.
Under the hood, the sedan is powered by Huawei's 800V high-voltage silicon carbide DriveOne motor system. Dual-motor versions deliver up to 390 kW, while the tri-motor configuration produces a combined 635 kW. The extended-range variant offers a comprehensive driving range of up to 1,333 km, while the battery-electric vehicle version achieves a CLTC-rated range of as much as 702 km, highlighting the model's blend of performance and long-distance capability in China's increasingly competitive high-end new energy vehicle market.
