German Chancellor Friedrich Merz tested a Mercedes-Benz S-Class equipped with the jointly developed autonomous driving system during a visit to China. Accompanied by Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Merz praised the system's performance. This endorsed the integration of Chinese and German technology.
The agreement advances eight years of collaboration and trust between the two companies.
Mercedes-Benz was the first major international automaker to invest in Momenta in 2017 and increased its stake through multiple funding rounds. The partnership combines Mercedes-Benz's safety standards with Momenta's AI algorithms. The aim is to advance global autonomous driving innovation at "China speed."
The collaboration has produced results. Their jointly developed intelligent driver-assistance system covers highways, urban roads, and parking scenarios. It delivers a complete "gate-to-gate" navigation experience.
The system prioritizes smooth interaction. Using a "human-machine co-driving" concept, it enables natural lane changes and interaction strategies. It maintains high safety and comfort while reducing driver fatigue.
The system, combining Chinese and German engineering, debuted in the all-electric CLA. It will launch in nine new Mercedes-Benz models this year, covering the brand's core lineup.
Models include the upcoming all-electric long-wheelbase GLC SUV and the S-Class used for the test ride. This signals that Mercedes-Benz's mainstream vehicles are entering the era of advanced autonomous driving.
