Gasgoo Munich- On March 23, Mobileye announced that a leading U.S. automaker will integrate its Driver Monitoring System (DMS) into future models. Powered by the EyeQ6L chip, the solution is slated for mass production in 2027.
The deal expands the scope of the companies' existing driver-assistance (ADAS) projects. Expected to span millions of vehicles across multiple models and model years, the initiative marks a significant deepening of their partnership. Mobileye's in-cabin sensing platform integrates DMS with Occupant Monitoring System (OMS) capabilities, running parallel to ADAS perception algorithms on a single chip. By fusing in-cabin and road sensing, the technology evaluates driver engagement based on the driving context—tracking not just alertness, but whether the driver's gaze aligns with road conditions.

Previously, Mobileye's DMS and OMS solutions were adopted by another global automaker for EyeQ6H-based SuperVision and surround-view ADAS systems. This new project underscores a broader industry trend: integrating driver monitoring, occupant safety, and driver-assistance functions to replace standalone DMS electronic control units (ECUs), thereby reducing system complexity and hardware costs.
As hands-off driving features trickle down to non-luxury segments, ensuring drivers remain focused on the road has become a critical safety imperative. By correlating ADAS camera data with driver gaze, Mobileye can identify distraction patterns that standalone systems might miss and determine whether the driver is effectively perceiving the road ahead. This approach reduces false positives while enabling more precise intervention—issuing takeover requests based on actual driver engagement in higher-level automated driving scenarios.
On the regulatory front, the platform already meets Euro NCAP 2026 rating requirements and anticipates potential updates in the 2029 guidelines—specifically the shift from simple eye-tracking to the detection of effective driving engagement.
