Shanghai, February 26 (Gasgoo.com) Problems with the accelerator pedals or brake systems may have affected more Toyota vehicles in China, beyond the RAV4 SUVs that are already on the recall agenda, China's quality regulator said yesterday, MarketWatch reported.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has not specified how many other Toyota vehicles sold in the Chinese market may be affected. Individual imports, among other reasons, are cited to support this possibility.
Toyota is recalling around 8.1 million vehicles globally, including 75,552 RAV4 vehicles in China, because of a gas pedal flaw. The Japanese auto giant has also issued a recall of its hybrid vehicles due to braking system problems.
China's quality regulator has advised Toyota vehicle owners in the country to find out if their cars were made in Japan or in the U.S., and to report to local import inspection bureaus any injuries caused by the cars' flaws.
On Feb 28, Toyota will begin recalling its RAV4 model in several areas in China. More than 75,500 units of Toyota's RAV4 sold in the Chinese market are equipped with defective brake pedals.
