Shanghai, March 11 (Gasgoo.com) Japan's motor-maker Nidec Corp. announced on Monday that it will spend about 4.5 billion yen ($50 million) to build a factory for producing small motors used in car systems and open an R&D center in the northeastern Chinese city of Dalian, AsiaPulse reported.

The two facilities will be built next to its consumer electronics motor plant and will employ about 5,300 workers. Construction will start in July, with operation scheduled for January 2011. The plant will be the third one by Nidec (Dalian) Limited, a subsidiary of Nidec Corp.

Nidec (Dalian) Limited currently operates two factories in Dalian Economic & Technical Development Zone, both of which engage in the production of small precision motors. The third factory now planned for construction will focus on manufacture of auto-use motors.

The third factory will be equipped with a state-of-the-art research and development center. The new manufacturing and R&D facilities will play a key role in commercializing Nidec's industry-leading electric motor technology and accommodating the growing demand in the Asian market.

Demand for small motors, such as for transmission and engine cooling systems, is rising sharply worldwide.

Nidec Corp. is a Japan-headquartered manufacturer of small-to-mid-size motors, fan motors, and pivot assemblies. The components are widely used in IT products, home appliances, automobiles, office equipment, and industrial machinery.
