Nissan China Chairman Ma Zhixin: Returning to Annual Sales of One Million Units in China is Feasible

Gasgoo Munich- "Nissan headquarters has set a clear milestone: Sales in China must hit 1 million units by the end of 2030. I remember the joint venture sold 1.55 million units in 2018, with about 1.2 million coming from the Nissan brand. We've done it before, and I was here the last time we achieved that result, so it is feasible," said Ma Zhixin, Nissan's Executive Committee member and China Chairman, in a recent interview at the Beijing auto show.

On April 14, Nissan outlined a new reform plan setting a target of 2.55 million combined sales across its three core markets—Japan, the U.S., and China—by fiscal year 2030. The U.S. and China are each expected to contribute 1 million units, while Japan is set to account for 550,000.

Nissan said it will prioritize rapid model development and cost control in China while strengthening its pure electric vehicle lineup. The automaker also aims to transform China into an export hub, supplying markets such as Latin America and Southeast Asia. It plans to export the China-made N7 mid-size sedan and the Frontier Pro pickup to these regions.

In Japan, Nissan plans to deepen its focus on small cars by launching new compact models, aiming to achieve annual sales of 550,000 units before the end of fiscal year 2031.
