Nissan unveils initial design of global small car

Nissan Motor Co. Thursday unveiled the initial design of its new global small car that will be produced in five countries, including India, China and Thailand.

Production of the car will start in May 2010 at a new factory in the Indian port city of Chennai, the Japanese automaker said. The factory is being built by Nissan and Renault S.A.

The car will be sold in more than 150 countries.

"We are serious and committed in our plans for India and are all excited as we gear up for the start of production in May 2010," said Kiminobu Tokuyama, managing director and chief executive of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd.
