Shanghai General Motors (SGM) announced it will recall more than 2,000 imported Captiva jeeps, citing a potentially dangerous defect.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) released a bulletin March 12 stating that the jeeps manufactured by GM Daewoo have an incomplete connection between the steering column and intermediate shaft which may lead to a steering malfunction.
The same day, the Defective Products Management Center of the AQSIQ approved SGM's application for the recall of relevant products in the Chinese market.
In line with the Regulation on Defective Auto Recall, SGM will recall all Captiva jeeps manufactured between September 18, 2007 and December 31, 2007. So far, SGM has not received any malfunction reports from customers.
SGM is now contacting the owners of Captiva jeeps to recall the vehicles for repair. The AQSIQ will order a halt to imports of Captiva jeeps made by GM Daewoo. It will also require quality inspection agencies to examine the company's other auto types.
