Shanghai Volkswagen Skoda brand new flagship model “Supai” was launched on Aug.12 in Guangzhou. “Supai” is improved from the present model Skoda “Haorui” and its pronunciation is born of the new transliteration of its original English name“Superb”. Compared with the original Haorui, Supai makes some changes on its appearance but make unapparent changes on its inner decoration. On the aspect of electric power, Supai continues to adopt the originally equipped three turbocharged engines,1.4T/1.8Tand 2.0T.
Skoda official statistics showed that Skoda China sales in first half year reached 120,200 units, a bit down 0.4% from a year earlier. This May, Skoda sales proportion in SVW gross sales was also decreasing from 18% of last year to 15%. Besides, since 2012, Skoda China sales growth has been slowing down. In order to reverse the above bad situation and eliminate the shortcomings of single auto model and slow speed of updating products, the new model Rapid was launched this April. And in order to strengthen the competitiveness in A-class market, Skoda decides to realize the localization of SUV model Yeti. This new launched model Supai and the original mode Haorui will commonly grab the middle and high-end market so as to to promote Skoda brand level.
Besides, according to the announced plan of Shanghai Volkswagen, Skoda sales proportion will be gradually increased in future, up to one fourth by 2015 and one third by 2018.
