Because of air bag on the seat and other problems, Toyota will launch 5 recalls in the global including 27 models whose totally number will be 6,390,000. Those recalls cover American, Europe, Chinese and Japanese markets. 2 models from Chinese market will be involved are Reiz and Highlander, whose number will be 61,459.
From the interview with Toyota China, only 1 recall of 5 involves Chinese market, including 47,636 Reiz from Tianjin FAW Toyota, 13,752 Highlander from Guangqi Toyota Automobile and 71 Highlander from Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. This recall is mainly due to winding displacement of air bag from spiral coil rubbing with guide groove. Toyota will replace spiral coil free of charge for Chinese market. This recall has influenced Toyota stock but has not influenced the profit yet. Auto expert think the reasons why Toyota launches voluntary recall are the supervision from American government.
