The U.S. Treasury Department has provided Chrysler LLC $3.034 billion in financing from its $700 billion financial rescue program, an amount slightly smaller than the $3.34 billion the government initially announced.
The Treasury, which provided the new figure in a transaction report Thursday, said Chrysler had some remaining cash, which enabled the government to slightly scale back the aid to $3.034 billion.
In addition, the transaction report shows that Houston-based Sterling Bancshares Inc. (SBIB) has paid back the $125.2 million Treasury provided it as part of the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP.
Overall, 12 banks have repaid a total of $1.16 billion in government aid, according to the latest Treasury Department data. The department expects repayments to grow to at least $25 billion.
