FAW-VW Automobile Co., Ltd. released its Satigar equipped with 1.4TSI (Turbo Stratified Injection) engines one day before the opening of the Chengdu Motor Show (CDMS).
As the 1.4TSI Satigar is also installed with DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox), it becomes the high-end version of Satigar series, whose sales volume had reached 53,000 vehicles by July 2009, climbing 8.1% from a year earlier, thanks to the Chinese government's reduction of taxes on buying passenger cars with a displacement of or below 1.6L.
To welcome the favorable policy, FAW-VW plans to enlarge the production capacity of models equipped with 1.4TSI engines, instead of those that have a displacement of 2.0L. Because of adopting new powertrain systems, the 1.4TSI models are not a bit inferior to 2.0L ones in terms of power output.
Volkswagen plans to reduce oil consumption by 20% by 2010. To reach the goal, its another joint venture Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. (SVW) will equip medium-grade sedans like Octavia, Lavida and Tiguan with 1.4TSI engines as one step of the automobile giant's small-displacement strategy in China.
