Gasgoo Munich- Changan Automobile has commissioned its first vision AI gluing robot for painting at its Liangjiang Plant, according to the company's announcement. By leveraging AI visual recognition, the robot can pinpoint application locations and optimize trajectories, enhancing both production efficiency and quality control in the coating process.

The PVC undercoat gluing process faces significant hurdles, including wide variations between vehicle models, tight working spaces, and complex application paths. Traditional robots, meanwhile, have struggled with nozzle calibration, angle adjustment, and trajectory fine-tuning.
To address this, Changan introduced an AI visual inspection system powered by deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). After hundreds of alignment tests, trajectory debugs, and sealant validations, the system optimizes the robot's coordinates, nozzle posture, and travel paths—adapting seamlessly to the undercoat gluing requirements of different models.

According to Changan, the new technology has alleviated bottlenecks in the PVC process, lifting the line's hourly output (JPH) by roughly 8%. The AI vision system monitors the gluing state in real time with millisecond-level response times. Both risk detection and reporting accuracy now exceed 99.5%, marking a shift in quality management from post-production inspection to active process monitoring.
Changan has been steadily expanding the use of AI vision technology across its production stages. The Liangjiang Plant had already deployed visual inspection systems for stamping and welding operations. The launch of this painting gluing robot further extends the scope of AI vision in automotive manufacturing execution and quality assurance.
