Gasgoo Daily presents a selection of the latest developments from China's automotive industry. Here are the key stories in this edition.
1. BYD's Xi'an Battery Project Enters Full-Scale Production
BYD's power-battery project in Xixian New Area, Xi'an, has entered full-scale production. Located in the Qinhan Autonomous Driving Industrial Park, the facility produces battery cells and packs and will supply BYD's vehicle manufacturing operations in Xi'an. The project's first battery cell rolled off the line on October 17, 2025, about 10 months after the project was signed.
The base is among the first production sites for BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and a key production base for its flash-charging technology. Its lines cover the process from electrode preparation and cell formation to module assembly, battery-pack integration and system testing, supported by an MES intelligent manufacturing system. BYD and more than 40 supporting companies have also established operations in the surrounding Zhouling advanced manufacturing area, strengthening the regional NEV supply chain.
2. XPENG and Banma Develop an Automotive-Grade AI Cockpit
At the 2026 Yunqi Conference, XPENG and Banma announced a joint automotive-grade AI cockpit solution combining XPENG's Turing AI chip with Banma's AutoOmni multimodal on-device large model. The system supports the local operation of 30B-class models, with the Turing chip providing up to 750 TOPS of effective computing power per chip, according to the source.
The "on-device first, cloud-assisted" architecture is designed to handle core functions such as multi-turn conversation, multimodal interaction, offline Q&A and task planning in the vehicle, while using the cloud for lower-frequency services. The companies say this can sustain AI functions in weak or unavailable network conditions and help address connectivity and data-privacy requirements in overseas markets. They plan to continue model adaptation and toolchain development, with the solution intended for mid- to high-end vehicle models.
3. PATEO Signs Global Supply Agreement with Jeep
PATEO has reached a global supply agreement with Jeep to provide high-end intelligent cockpit domain controllers and AI-based in-vehicle interaction systems for models under two of the customer's brands. The vehicles are intended for overseas markets including Europe, the Middle East and South America.
Separately, under a new joint-venture framework between Stellantis and Dongfeng Motor Group, two electrified models are being developed for production at DPCA's Wuhan plant and planned global sales through Stellantis' international network. PATEO's cockpit technologies are expected to be used in the program, extending the company's work from Chinese brands to an international automaker's global supply system.
