Shanghai, March 25 (Gasgoo.com) Serbia's truck-maker Fabrika Automobila Proboj (FAP) will start assembling China's Dongfeng trucks by the end of the year, local media reported this week.

Representatives of Chinese Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company will arrive in Serbia next week to discuss the steps for this cooperation, said Head of the FAP Development Sector Miroslav Matovic. An agreement on business technicalities will be signed in May, and the action plan will be drafted by December.

The scope of production will depend on the market, but the trucks will be competitive, since their price will be 30% lower than in other parts of Europe, Matovic added. This year, the focus of interest will be the Serbian market, and after that the foreign market.

FAP and Dongfeng signed an agreement in November 2009 in Belgrade for this cooperation, saying the Priboj factory in southern Serbia would start to assemble Dongfeng trucks in 2010 and specifying that four models of Dongfeng's heavy-duty trucks will be produced there in the first phase.

In the second phase there will be joint investment, which means the trucks, with more than 50% of components, are produced in Serbia. This will allow FAP to export trucks to countries with which Serbia has signed free trade agreements.

Dongfeng is one of the largest truck producers in the world and manufactures some 1.2 million vehicles annually.
