BYD to launch first M6 MPV in China by July end
BYD M6, priced at 239,800 yuan ($35,000), will be targeting at the high-end MPV market. China's eastern Yangtze River Delta and southern Pearl River Delta have always been BYD's major markets. Therefore, this time, the automaker will also sell the M6 in southern boom town of Shenzhen and eastern scenic city of Hangzhou first and then extend the expansion to the other regions gradually, a person in charge of the store sales said.
The seven-seater large BYD M6 MPV, which is equipped with the anti-lock braking system (ABS), an automatic sunroof, the global position system (GPS), etc., measures (LxWxH) 4808mm x 1800mm x 1756mm with a wheelbase of 2950mm.
Moreover, the engine has a displacement of 2.4-liter for the automatic gearbox version, and 2.0-liter for the manual gearbox version. BYD Auto uses Mitsubishi as its engine supplier for the ubiquitous 4G69, but BYD auto also manufactures its own engines for the BYD483, which is expected to be a success.
The BYD-developed engine provides a maximum of 103kW/6,000 rpm power and 186Nm/4,000-4500 rpm torque. Those two engines are also equipped in the BYD F6. These engines have all passed Euro-IV emissions standards.
With this first-ever MPV model, BYD Auto plans to aim at government, business and large family users.
