Shanghai. March 21 (Gasgoo.com) - Three Chery car models will be sold in Australia by Ateco Automotive, one of the country's biggest auto distributors in 2009, Australia local newspaper The Age reported yesterday.

"The three gasoline (petrol) models, A1, A5 and Tiggo 3, will be marketed as offering 'best value', although they will not be significantly cheaper than its rivals," Ateco managing director Ric Hull said.

Mr Hull also assured that the cars to be imported will meet ADR69 (Australian Design Rule 69, which sets standards for frontal crashes).

A total of 100 dealers have expressed an interest in selling the brand, 75 of which will be chosen to launch it in the first year.

Ateco has wide experience of vehicle importing, being the official agent for Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Citroën and Fiat brands.

Chery has been China's leading vehicle exporter for the past five years. Last year it sold 261,000 vehicles domestically and exported a further 120,000.
