GAC Trumpchi to launch range-extended EVs for the first time

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- According to GAC Trumpchi, it will launch over 7 models of new energy vehicles (NEV) in the next five years covering 3 major series, hybrid series, range-extended electric series and pure electric series.

Currently, GAC Trumpchi’s focus in NEV area is to develop plug-in hybrid technologies and pure electric technologies. Also, it aims to achieve a NEV’s annual sales target of 100,000 units to 200,000 units in 2020.

In July last year, GAC Group established a new energy vehicle subsidiary (GAC NEV). The plant of the new company has been in construction. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed at the end of 2018 with a planned annual production capacity of 20,000 units. Besides, GAC NEV may launch its first model in 2019.

At the North American International Auto Show of 2018, GAC showcased Enverge, a compact sporty utility new energy concept model designed for North American market. Some core technologies that GAC reaped in NEV area were applied in this model.

In addition, GAC NEV also actively formed partnerships with other enterprises. At the end of 2017, GAC announced that GAC and GAC NEV teams up with NIO, a China-based vehicle startup, to jointly build up GAC NIO New Energy Automotive Co., Ltd. which will be devoted to the R&D, sales and services of intelligent connected vehicles and NEVs in the future.
