Alibaba, SAIC Motor jointly launch simulation computing cloud platform

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Alibaba Cloud, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group, and Chinese state-owned automaker SAIC Motor jointly launched the SSCC (SAIC Simulation Computing Cloud) on June 7, which is claimed to be China's first cloud-based simulation computing platform designed for vehicle research and development.

The cooperation between the Internet company and the automaker mainly focus on vehicle R&D and engineering issues. According to the automaker, SAIC Motor has had its simulation computing efficiency increased 25% by drawing on Alibaba's advantage in cloud computing, thus the engineering developer could focus more on designing and optimizing products. Besides, the cooperation also helps the automaker to provide users with scalable high-performance computing resources as well as stable and effective simulation computing services.

In 2017, Alibaba Cloud released a computing server dubbed “X-Dragon Cloud Server”, which was described as a ‘mixed cloud service’, combining a physical server's stability with the scalability of a virtual machine. Reportedly, the SSCC was created based on the “X-Dragon Cloud Server”.

According to Alibaba Cloud, the use of SSCC could make the vehicle R&D efficiency enhanced by energizing simulation capability and strengthen the R&D in connectivity, automation and intelligentization by virtue of cloud computing. In the future, the product will serve more and more manufacturing companies.

Apart from that, Alibaba and SAIC Motor had formed partnership in development of in-vehicle terminal products. On July 6, 2016, two companies jointly launched the world's first production IoV (Internet of Vehicles) model the Roewe RX5, which was outfitted with AliOS, the operating system for Internet of Things solutions developed by Alibaba Group. In the past two years, SAIC Motor has installed AliOS in its self-owned models across entire lineup.
