With an overall floorage of more than 370,000 square meters, GWM's Jingmen base involves an investment of 5 billion yuan ($774.87 million). When it becomes fully operational, the plant is expected to have an annual capacity of 150,000 new vehicles. The planned capacity for the first phase is 100,000 vehicles per year.
The automaker said it aims to develop the Jingmen plant into a global model manufacturing base in line with Industrie 4.0. In addition to the normal workshops for stamping, welding, painting, and assembly, the factory will have dedicated new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturing facilities.
As the first model coming after the launch of the standalone TANK brand, the TANK 600 came off the production line at the Jingmen plant and will make its world's debut at the Chengdu Motor Show 2021 to be held in August. Powering the new SUV model is a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, delivering up to 260kW and 500 N·m.
GWM announced TANK as an independent off-road vehicle marque at the Auto Shanghai 2021. The TANK 300, the first TANK-branded production model, recorded a total sales volume topping 30,000 units in the first half of this year.
