Car and City: July 2021 registrations of NIO models

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- For the month of July 2021, the insurance registrations of NIO's three mass-produced models totaled 8,052 units, soaring 125% year on year, while also growing 3.5% month on month, according to the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC).

In terms of July registrations of locally-made vehicles, NIO ranked ninth among new energy vehicle (NEV) brands in China.

For the first seven months of this year, NIO's insurance volume amounted to 49,155 units, surging 179% over a year earlier.

Among NIO's three models, the ES8 was the only one scoring month-over-month growth in July. Compared to the year-ago period, the ES8’s July registrations shot up 83.6% to 1,772 units, 1,327 units of which were registered by private users.

The top 3 cities by July ES8 registrations were Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou, which were all among the four cities usually seen as China's largest and most developed urban metropolises. Shenzhen ranked sixth with 96 ES8s registered there last month.

There were five cities recording July registrations of over 100 ES8s. Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Chengdu are all provincial capital cities.

With 3,625 vehicles registered, the ES6 was the No. 17 made-in-China NEV model in July. Private users contributed 83.4% to the ES6 July registrations.

Shanghai, where NIO's global headquarters are situated, was also the No.1 city in China in terms of July ES6 registrations, outselling the runner-up Beijing by 188 units.

There were a total of five cities—Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Shenzhen—recording Aug. ES6 registrations of over 200 units.

The NIO EC6 ranked 25th among China-made NEV models in Aug. with 2,655 vehicles registered. Since the delivery began in September 2020, cumulative registrations of the EC6 amounted to 22,137 units.

Among cities in China, Shanghai was the only one with EC6 registrations topping 200 units in August. The top five cities by Aug. EC6 registrations were the same as the rankings for the ES6.
