China’s Jan. 2023 deliveries of imported passenger vehicles drop 36.5% YoY
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In the first month of 2023, there were 56,490 imported passenger vehicles (PVs) delivered across the Chinese mainland, representing a 36.5% decrease year-over-year, according to Sinomach Automobile Co., Ltd., China's largest dealer of imported vehicles.
To be specific, the Jan. 2023 imported PV deliveries were composed of 23,846 cars, 30,072 SUVs, and 2,572 MPVs, which fell 38.1%, 34.9%, and 39.2% from the previous year, respectively.

Of the imported PVs delivered last month, 50,397 units were under luxury car brands, reflecting an 37.5% year-on-year downward movement.
Luxury brands hereby consist of Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Cadillac, Lexus, Land Rover, Maserati, MINI, Acura, smart, Tesla, Volvo, Infiniti, etc.
Ultra-luxury brands, including Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, McLaren, etc., saw their combined imported PV deliveries in China dip 9% over a year earlier to 695 units in Jan. 2023, but edge up 1% from the previous month.
Among the top 10 brands by Jan. 2023 sales of imported PVs in China, there were only two brands achieving a year-on-year growth, namely, Land Rover and Volkswagen. Of the other eight brands, MINI faced the sharpest year-on-year plunge, at 72.6%. Compared to the previous month, Mercedes-Benz and BMW moved up to the first and second places, but Lexus slid to the third due to the decline in the Lexus ES’ sales and the change-over of the Lexus RX.
