Changan Ford takes over operations of Ford Mustang Mach-E in China

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On the first day of August, Changan Ford, the joint venture between Changan Automobile and Ford Motor Company in China, announced the official takeover of the operation of Ford Mustang Mach-E in the Chinese market, starting the same day.

As part of this transition, all existing Ford Mustang Mach-E owners will receive a comprehensive upgrade to Qualcomm's third-generation 8155 chip, enhancing the responsiveness and intelligence of the vehicle's systems. This move marks the end of the model's independent operations as it joins Changan Ford's product lineup and sales channels.

In line with this change, Ford Mustang Mach-E's official statement addresses the shift in sales, service, and user maintenance operations. As Ford Motor Company undergoes strategic transformation and business adjustments in the Chinese market, the Mustang Mach-E's operating model will be adjusted accordingly. This involves broadening sales and service channels to strengthen the brand's presence in China's electric vehicle market.

Starting from August 1, 2023, Changan Ford will become the new operating entity responsible for Ford Mustang Mach-E's sales, after-sales service, and user maintenance, replacing Ford China's electric vehicle division, formerly known as Ford Electric Mach Technologies (FMeT).

According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Ford Mustang Mach-E recorded only a few thousand units in total sales throughout 2022, trailing behind Chinese new energy vehicle startups' monthly sales figures. Between March and May this year, monthly sales of the Ford Mustang Mach-E plummeted to around 300 units, far below the average sales levels of the previous year.
