FAW forges partnership with ZTE involving 5G autonomous driving

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese state-owned automotive manufacturing company FAW Group Corporation (FAW) and Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE Corporation (ZTE) recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the development of 5G autonomous driving, CVIS (cooperation vehicle infrastructure system), intelligent manufacturing, smart industrial park and compliance.

Both parties will join hands to work on 5G network building, 5G-based application scenarios. Research of solutions and declaration of relevant standards and projects are part of the cooperation. Under the partnership, they aim to accelerate the research and development (R&D) of 5G innovative application and the commercialization, and to set up 5G’s application demonstration.

According to the agreement, the two sides will jointly seek deeper integration of such technologies as 5G, C-V2X, cloud computing, edge computing with intelligent driving and manufacturing technologies. Meanwhile, they will have an all-around cooperation in ICV, including product R&D, production, test, operation, services and management.

In addition, FAW and ZTE will co-research the application of 5G & MEC (multi-access edge computing) technologies in fields like intelligent factory management, smart warehousing, and smart logistics.  

In the future, they will make joint efforts to realize technology integration and innovation in users’ experience in vision, hearing, smelling, touch and perception. Both sides will take new energy vehicle, intelligent and connected vehicle, software, artificial intelligence, intelligent driving, wireless charging, battery and other fields as breakthrough points to achieve leapfrog development.     

Earlier in 2018, one of ZTE's subsidiaries provided technical support for FAW to develop the Hongqi H7with L3 self-driving functions.
