Under the agreement, the state-owned automaker will cooperate with the e-commerce giant on such businesses as the all-region digitalization, cloud computing service, IoV (Internet of Vehicles), smart supply chain and financial service, according to a posting on BAIC Group’s WeChat account.

Taking advantage of JD.com's platform and technologies, BAIC Group wishes to boost the sales volume of its vehicle and other auto-related products through the extensive digital cooperation, so as to widen and deepen their partnership in procurement.

Furthermore, a series of crucial projects will be jointly promoted by two companies on the ground of JD.com’s technical applications and basic services in cloud platform, IoV, smart supply chain as well as supply chain finance. In a bid to improve the car-use experience and enrich usage scenarios for consumers, they will make joint efforts to put intelligent-connected applications into vehicles. Besides, they are about to co-explore such applications as in-car shopping and intelligent maintenance.

Mobility service, as one of highlights of the latest cooperation, is also the realm where BAIC Group stands at the forefront. The automaker has built and developed its own mobility service platform dubbed BAIC Mobility, and also joined hands with a number of ride-hailing or carsharing service providers like DiDi. With the development of electrification, the emerging market has become a fantastic place for NEV maker to boost sales and consume auto capacity.

The cooperation between BAIC Group and JD.com could be traced back to March, 2014, when BAIC BJEV struck a deal with the online retailer to co-promote the NEV R&D and expand the NEV market. They agreed then to jointly deploy 5,000 all-electric logistics vehicles in JD.com’s system within two years (photo source: BAIC Group's WeChat account).
