The company also planned to deploy the said system onto four product lines and plug it into the intelligent traffic network of another six Chinese cities by the end of the year.

Since the beginning of 2021, Ford has started to implement the vehicle-road synergy system onto its China-made models, making it the first automaker in the country to realize the large-scale application of the said system.

Currently, Ford’s system is at the V2I (vehicle to infrastructure) phase, with 4G connectivity, pushing traffic notifications via two-way communications between vehicles, roads, and the cloud.

The automaker said that the system comes standard to all new Ford models, starting 2021. As of now, the entire lines of the EVOS, the Mustang Mach-E, the new Explorer, and the Edge Plus are all equipped with the vehicle-road synergy system, with OTA updates.

By June this year, Ford’s intelligent traffic “new infrastructure” project in Huangpu District, Guangzhou, has completed the intellectualization of 133-km open roads and 102 intersections.

Notably, the Ford China team led the R&D of the said system. The system has been iterated and optimized over 200 times by now, with over 16,000 car owners applying for the service.
