Baidu will provide integrated ANP intelligent driving products and maps for human-machine co-driving for BYD, according to the sources. Moreover, the automaker is reportedly working with Baidu’s intelligent driving team already, and the model with new technologies will start production soon.
The ANP solution of Baidu’s intelligent driving arm, Apollo, consists of 12 ultrasonic radars, 8 mid-range cameras, 4 fisheye cameras, 4 angular millimeter-wave radars, and a long-range millimeter-wave radar.
Notably, Apollo’s ANP solution is a technical downgrade application from L4 autonomous driving technologies. The solution adopts the same technology and data closed loop as Baidu’s Robotaxi. The solution has been tested for over 21 million kilometers on-road and 500 million kilometers in simulation.
Moreover, the ANP solution is not fixed and can be customized for different auto partners to control costs.
In fact, BYD and Baidu’s partnership can be dated back to 2018. According to the plans the two companies disclosed at BYD’s Worldwide Developer Conference of that year, the partners aimed to start scaled production of autonomous driving vehicles within three years.
