Shanghai Jiading District opens expressways for autonomous driving vehicle road tests

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Shanghai on May 9 granted the Shanghai Intelligent Connected Vehicle Highway Road Testing Notification to two companies, Toyota Technical Research and Service (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and AutoX's Shanghai division, allowing the two entities to perform road tests with their autonomous vehicles under highway scenarios in Shanghai's Jiading District.

In November last year, Shanghai opened a 21.5-kilometer section of the G1503 Ring Expressway in Jiading District and a 19.5-kilometer section of the G2 Beijing-Shanghai Expressway as the testbeds for intelligent connected vehicles on high-speed roads. With the issuance of the "Notification of Testing," the testing scenario for intelligent connected vehicles on high-speed roads in Jiading District will be officially activated.

Up to now, the Shanghai Intelligent Connected Vehicle Public Data Center has given access to 29 companies and received real-time data from 624 intelligent connected vehicles involved in road testing and demonstration applications, as well as real-time data from roadside infrastructure. This dynamic collection of data on people, vehicles, roads, and the environment effectively serves government supervision and industry innovation.

In addition, the district of Jiading opened up its entire road network for intelligent connected vehicle tests, with a total distance of approximately 1,117 kilometers and around 9,100 testing scenarios. About 230 kilometers of roads have been transformed into smart roads, providing effective support for companies engaged in the innovation and testing validation of autonomous driving technologies.
