Baidu Apollo unveils AI-powered smart cockpit applications with ERNIE large model

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On May 23, Baidu Apollo showcased the groundbreaking application of the ERNIE large model in its new AI smart cockpit. Leveraging ERNIE's capabilities, the AI smart cockpit enables conversational interaction, logical reasoning, strategic planning, and knowledge-based question answering for mobility scenarios.

It delivers an ultimate user experience, with comprehensive acoustic zone coverage, millisecond-level response, and seamless interaction.

Baidu Apollo's mass-produced voice product, the Xiaodu onboard voice SDK, has been upgraded with localized large model capabilities. Without the use of a wake word, the new Xiaodu is able to conduct simultaneous interactions, full-page voice responses, and millisecond-level response times, standing by at all times. It can also handle simultaneous multi-turn conversations, supporting up to eight precise interactions at the same time.

In addition, Baidu Apollo also applied the ERNIE large model into in-car scenarios, envisioning conversational interaction in onboard speech products. The large model powers the AI cabin to engage in conversations, logical reasoning, strategic planning, and knowledge-based question answering, fulfilling users' needs within the vehicle.

With the support of the ERNIE large model, the upgraded Xiaodu voice assistant can help users with travel itinerary planning, local recommendations, knowledge-based inquiries, and come up with an "inspiration drawing" based on users’ descriptions.

Baidu is also exploring how the ERNIE large model can reshape personalized driving spaces. The forthcoming multifaceted persona feature will allow customization of the voice assistant's personality to match different scenarios, user characteristics, and preferences, fostering emotional interactions. Users will have access to a personal car consultant, replacing traditional product manuals and providing detailed information about vehicle functions and features on-demand.
