WeRide permitted to test autonomous vehicles on highways in Beijing

Beijing (Gasgoo)- The Beijing High-level Automated Driving Demonstration Area (BJHAD) recently released a notice regarding the airport highway test roads and test areas. WeRide, the Chinese autonomous driving solution provider, has taken the lead in obtaining qualifications to test autonomous vehicles on the demonstration zone's high-speed roads.

With the announcement of the new airport highway testing scenario, WeRide is strategically positioning itself to accelerate its road-testing efforts along the airport highway, steadily progressing towards the demonstration stage with passengers on board.

Furthermore, during the 2023 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference, Beijing introduced autonomous driving shuttle services from Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 3 to the China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Pavilion). WeRide was granted access to the Capital Airport highway, offering VIP shuttle services for conference attendees, covering a round trip of over 17 kilometers. 

This successful deployment addressed various autonomous driving challenges, from low-speed urban areas to high-speed highways, significantly expanding the scope of fixed-route autonomous shuttle services.

Airport shuttle services play a pivotal role in urban transportation, serving business travelers, tourists, those visiting family, and friends. WeRide is now set to systematically conduct road tests from Beijing’s Yizhuang area to Beijing Daxing International Airport, covering diverse urban and highway scenarios, with the highway segment extending approximately 40 kilometers. 

WeRide, which officially obtained approval for autonomous road testing in the BJHAD in October 2022, has thrived in the city's inclusive and business-friendly environment. The company has rapidly entered the demonstration operation stage with fully unmanned Robotaxis.

Today, within the 225-square-kilometer core area of Beijing's Yizhuang district, citizens can download the WeRide Go App and summon fully autonomous Robotaxis, reaching various destinations like subway stations, central business districts, and large office parks.
