CARIAD China, vivo co-build ‘Mobile x Mobility Fusion Joint Innovative Lab’

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On November 3, 2023, Volkswagen Group's software subsidiary CARIAD in China (CARIAD China), in a joint effort with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer vivo, has officially established the "Mobile x Mobility Fusion Joint Innovative Lab."

The collaboration leverages CARIAD's expertise in software-hardware integration and mobility product development, coupled with vivo's strengths in the smartphone industry's unique products and application ecosystem. Together, they aim to pioneer innovative connections between smart devices and intelligent vehicles, crafting a continuous and seamless digital mobility experience for consumers.

This partnership, operating under CARIAD China's homegrown innovation center, "Forward! Lab," is set to focus on software-hardware related to intelligent connected vehicles, remote information service platforms, and smart mobility services. Multiple R&D efforts are already underway, including bi-directional synchronization and integration of human-machine interfaces between smartphones and smart cars, integrated sharing of user data within the vehicle, seamless connectivity and smooth transition of smart applications inside and outside the vehicle, and the sharing of hardware resources and sensors between smartphones and smart cars. These efforts are promoting the ongoing evolution of the mobile-car fusion and technology.

Initial accomplishments of the partnership include "Gamebase," which offers users an immersive gaming experience by harnessing smartphone computational power and ecosystem resources within the vehicle; and "Touch&Go", which allows convenient access to vehicle information and flexible control through custom smartphone interface widgets. Both companies are also exploring areas like HMI (human-machine interaction) fusion, data and computation fusion, and large-scale modeling.

The Mobile x Mobility Fusion Lab's R&D team comprises local talents from CARIAD China and vivo, bringing substantial experience. They are dedicated to responding to and fulfilling the needs of Chinese consumers with agility. The two companies plan to continually expand their collaborative efforts in the mobile-car fusion domain, utilizing artificial intelligence learning capabilities and data models to enable seamless multi-device connections in various scenarios, driving ongoing advancements in automotive digital products and services.
