Guangzhou deploys 10,000 V2X-enabled connected vehicles in routine operation

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On January 24, according to GAC Group's official announcement, Guangzhou has become the first city in China to have over 10,000 vehicles in routine V2X operation, as the final C-V2X onboard unit (OBU) installation and debugging for GAC’s ride-hailing platform OnTime were successfully completed.

In 2021, GAC Group spearheaded the winning bid for the "Construction of 5G + Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Pilot Application Environment and Scenario Trial Verification Public Service Platform Project" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. This marked the initiation of comprehensive V2X construction in Guangzhou. After more than two years of development, Guangzhou has established four V2X-enabled connected vehicle demonstration zones in Panyu, Huangpu, Huadu, and Haizhu districts, significantly elevating the level of road intelligence.

To promote synergy between connected vehicles and infrastructure, Guangdong Intelligent Connected Vehicle Innovation Center, in collaboration with OnTime and the Public Transportation Group, initiated the transformation of 10,400 OnTime ride-hailing and public transit vehicles with C-V2X OBU terminals, achieving 100% intelligent vehicle transformation in the pilot operation.

The OBU, equipped with PC5 communication capabilities, CA encryption, and BeiDou high-precision positioning technologies, facilitates V2X communication with Roadside Units (RSUs) and real-time interaction between OnTime drivers. The drivers receive 16 categorized scenario warnings and 55 detailed warning prompts, enhancing the vehicles' risk mitigation capabilities, including forward collision alerts, blind-spot lane change warnings, reverse overtaking alerts, road hazard reminders, and congestion alerts.
