WeRide starts pilot paid commercial Robobus operation in Zhuhai’s Hengqin area

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On September 10, 2024, WeRide, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, in collaboration with the authorities of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone and Zhuhai Da Heng Qin Technology Development Co., Ltd., officially launched pilot commercial operation of autonomous shuttle buses (Robobus) in Hengqin. This marks the first commercial deployment of autonomous shuttle buses in the Cooperation Zone, signifying a major milestone.

WeRide has also received approval to conduct regular road tests of Robobuses in the Cooperation Zone with no safety operators on board and no steering wheel onboard under remote high-level autonomous driving conditions, laying the groundwork for fully unmanned commercial operations.

Located on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary, adjacent to Macao and just 187 meters at its closest point, the Hengqin Cooperation Zone serves as a key link between Macao and the Chinese Mainland.

Since July 2023, WeRide's Robobuses have completed over 100,000 kilometers in autonomous driving during passenger-carrying tests in the Zone, providing service to more than 20,000 passengers and offering convenient, green, and intelligent mobility solutions to residents and tourists from both Guangdong and Macao.
