2018 NEV promotion policy is under preparation

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Some relevant governmental ministries now are making preparations to formulate relevant policies to boost the development of NEVs for 2018 in China. The policy will be oriented towards the environment protection and market end. At the same time, China will intensify the assessment of NEV promotion in cities, vigorously promote the quota scheme of NEVs, and will determine the timetable of electrification for public transportation vehicles.

NEV promotion is oriented by environment protection

Currently, whether the NEVs are environment-friendly or not remains in dispute. Some experts hold the view that NEVs are no cleaner than traditional fuel-powered vehicles since the battery production generates many pollutants. They even think that the promotion of NEVs may aggravate the air pollution. Wang Hewu, professor of Tsinghua University and vice secretary of China EV100 corrected that pure electric vehicles will produce less pollutants than traditional fuel-powered ones even if all the battery power comes from fossil-fuel power stations. In addition, the pollutant emitted from power stations will be largely reduced as the clean technologies of State Grid further improved. According to Wang Hewu, electric vehicles will be the most energy-saving and environment-friendly transportation tools.

NEV promotion should be expanded in demand end

According to the statistics from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), cumulative sales of NEVs reached 609,000 units during past 11 months. Industry insiders forecast that the annual sales target of 700,000 units can be easily completed by the end of 2017. It is expected to deliver more than 1,000,000 units in 2018. Wang Binggang, an electric vehicle expert who leads the National 863 Energy-saving and New-energy Vehicle Project, believed that the temporary policies are geared to supply and demand ends, while supply end saw tighten management. In the post-subsidy era, China should vigorously promote the development of quota scheme for fuel-powered vehicles and NEVs, which will uplift the sales of NEVs and will further decrease the costs of NEVs.
