GWM, Chery recall 17,623 NEVs
Beijing (Gasgoo)- Great Wall Motor (GWM) and Chery Automobile said on Friday that they were recalling a total of 17,623 new energy vehicles for thermal runaway risks of power battery.
Chery is recalling 1,407 Arrizo 5e vehicles which were made between July 20, 2018 and May 28, 2019 for the reason that certain parts inside their power battery may have consistency fluctuations. After long-time usage, high-voltage linkage, especially when experiencing abnormal crash and severe turbulence, may loosen, which could cause battery thermal runaway and raise safety concerns.
The recall of GWM, top SUV and pickup manufacturer in China covers 16,216 ORA iQ electric vehicles which were made between July 7, 2018 and October 30, 2019. Those vehicles have matching discrepancy between the consistency of some power batteries and the controlling strategy of BMS software, which, after long-term repetitive fast charging, could cause declining performance and potential battery thermal runaway in extreme situations.
CATL denied that it was the battery supplier of those recalled GWM vehicles. Farasis Energy said in a statement that it supplied modules for those vehicles, not the BMS which caused the recall. In its prospectus, which was released in July, 2020, Farasis revealed that it supplied batteries for the ORA iQ and that their cooperation started from 2018.
