HOZON Auto, Leapmotor outsell XPeng, Li Auto in July
In July 2022, the top 5 Chinese new energy vehicle ("NEV") startups all recorded monthly deliveries of over 10,000 units with a year-on-year growth, according to data the companies released on the first day of August.
Among the five main China's local NEV innovators, HOZON Auto and Leapmotor were the only two that logged a month-on-month increase in July deliveries.
HOZON Auto, who owns the brand NETA, outsold other startups in July. In terms of total deliveries for the first seven months, it was credited as the runner-up with its sales surging 184.6% year-over-year.
HOZON Auto saw its July deliveries shoot up 133.5% from a year earlier. Notably, of the new vehicles it delivered last month, 1,382 units were sold to overseas markets.
Currently, HOZON Auto only has two production models for sale, the NETA V and the NETA U. Its all-new flagship model, the NETA S, went on sale on July 31 with a price range of 199,800 yuan to 338,800 yuan ($29,610-$50,210).
Leapmotor moved up to the second place regarding July deliveries, and it was the fastest-growing one among the five startups.
Leapmotor issued a new round of price increase on the last day of July. Due to the hike in upstream raw materials prices, five variants of the T03 would rise on price by 5,600 yuan to 6,600 yuan ($830-$980) from August 1, 2022, the company said.
XPeng faced a downward movement of 24.7% from the previous month, but it still ranked highest among emerging Chinese NEV makers by Jan.-Jul. deliveries.
XPeng said its July deliveries consisted of 6,397 P7 sports sedans, 3,608 P5 family sedans, and 1,519 G3i compact SUVs.
In August, XPeng plans to begin accepting reservations for its G9 SUV. The flagship model will formally hit the market in Sept. 2022 with its deliveries soon kicking off afterwards.
The Li ONE's July deliveries markedly grew 21.3% from the year-ago period. The cumulative deliveries of the hot-selling range-extended electric vehicle model have reached 194,913 units since the vehicle’s market debut in 2019.
On August 1, Li Auto saw the 200,000th Li ONE come off the production line at its Changzhou manufacturing base. It took the startup only 986 days to hit the production milestone.
Moreover, the Li L9, Li Auto's second production model launched in late June this year, has accumulated over 50,000 orders, among which non-refundable orders confirmed for the model exceeded 30,000 units.
With 10,052 vehicles delivered, NIO ranked lowest among the five startups, but it still achieved a two-digit year-on-year increase.
The automaker revealed the production of the ET7 and the EC6 in July 2022 was constrained by the supply of casting parts. Nevertheless, it has been working closely with its supply chain partners, expecting to speed up vehicle production in the following months of the third quarter this year.
