China’s Guangzhou city eyes over 100 hydrogen refueling stations deployed by 2030

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Guangzhou, the capital of China's Guangdong province, plans to deploy over 50 hydrogen-refueling stations across the city by the end of 2025, at least 45 of which are scheduled to be added between 2022 and 2025, according to a document issued by the Guangzhou Municipal Development and Reform Commission on Sept. 20.

The document is about a ten-year (2021-2030) plan on the development of Guangzhou's hydrogen infrastructures.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) period, Guangzhou plans to newly build one hydrogen-making station, resulting in a cumulative volume of three by the end of 2025, according to the plan. Meanwhile, local authorities will work on the construction of 1-2 stations that integrate hydrogen making and refueling functions, and 1-2 energy storage stations.

Besides, in the 2021-2025 period, the city expects to form the capability of producing 35,000 kilograms fuel cell-used hydrogen per day (13,000 tonnes per year) and supplying vehicles with no fewer than 40,000 kilograms of hydrogen per day (15,000 tonnes per year), which can meet the hydrogen usage demands of over 6,000 fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).

For a longer-term plan, Guangzhou aims to build another 50 hydrogen filling stations from 2026 to 2030, so as to lift the city’s cumulative volume to over 100 stations as of 2030. In addition, the metropolis wishes to fulfill a deployment of 5 plus hydrogen-making/refueling stations and 3-4 hydrogen storage stations by 2030.

Moreover, Guangzhou's authorities expect over 100,000 sets of fuel cell power systems to be installed into automobiles, rail transit facilities, vessels, aerocrafts, etc. by 2030.
