BYD, Uzavtosanoat JSC to build joint venture in Uzbekistan for new energy vehicle production

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD and Uzavtosanoat JSC ("UzAuto") signed an agreement last week to establish a joint venture working on the production of new energy vehicles (NEVs) and relevant auto parts, according to a post on BYD's WeChat account.

To be based in Uzbekistan, the joint venture will manufacture multiple hotter-selling BYD-branded NEV models, including the DM-i super hybrid models and related components.

Founded in 1994, UzAuto is Central Asia's largest passenger and commercial vehicle manufacturer with a full-cycle production and component manufacturing deployment. The company has also built a massive sales network and an outstanding after-sales service system.

UzAuto has teamed up with such global automakers as General Motors, Sinotruck, MAN, and Isuzu. In addition to the 95% share in Uzbekistan's auto market, in 2020, UzAuto was honored the champion among the domestic automakers by annual sales volumes for the 2^nd consecutive year.

UzAuto is expanding export business to neighbouring countries, and has started overseas production in Azerbaijan.

BYD Company Limited sold 1,868,543 vehicles (+152.46% YoY) through 2022, including 1,862,428 passenger vehicles. There were 55,916 passenger vehicles exported outside of China last year, representing a 307.2% year-on-year spike.
