Shanghai (Gasgoo)- CATL announced on Apr. 16 its sodium-ion batteries will be installed onto a vehicle model of Chery Auto first.

The battery giant didn’t disclose whether the first- or second-generation sodium-ion battery is involved in the cooperation with Chery.

Meanwhile, CATL and Chery will join hands to launch the battery brand dubbed “ENER-Q”. Both parties will also collaborate on various types of batteries, such as sodium-ion batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries, M3P batteries, etc. The fruits of this collaboration will be applied in such mass-produced vehicle models as the iCAR 03 in the future.

On July 29, 2021, CATL launched its first-generation sodium-ion battery, aiming to provide all-new solutions for the development of clean energy and electrified transportation, and contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality.

Based on a slew of innovations in the chemistry system, the energy density of CATL’s first-generation sodium-ion battery cell can achieve up to 160Wh/kg, and the battery can charge to charge in 15 minutes to 80% SOC at room temperature, according to the company’s introduction. Moreover, in a low-temperature environment of -20°C, the sodium-ion battery has a capacity retention rate of more than 90%, and its system integration efficiency can reach more than 80%.

CATL revealed last year that the second-generation sodium-ion battery would see its single-cell energy density exceed 200Wh/kg.
