Wang Chuanfu, BYD's Chairman and President, emphasized that FANGCHENGBAO aims to redefine the vehicular experience, merging professionalism and personalization to catalyze a transformative "revolution" in the NEV realm. The brand envisions crafting bespoke, tailor-made vehicles for individual users, thereby reshaping the landscape of NEVs.
The brand name "FANGCHENGBAO" derived from Chinese phonetics to symbolize precision ("FANGCHENG" for "formula") and agility ("BAO" for "leopard"), said BYD. The brand boasts a suite of cutting-edge technologies, including the trailblazing DMO Super Hybrid Off-Road Platform, which was also introduced on spot.
The company said FANGCHENGBAO envisages that the intersection of cutting-edge new energy technologies and a wide array of user preferences will pave the way for an unparalleled user experience. Whether venturing through expansive wilderness, racing on a track, navigating busy urban landscapes, or cruising along highways – be it for moments of exhilaration or daily commutes – an exclusive driving experience tailored to each scenario is now readily attainable.
In pursuit of this objective, FANGCHENGBAO will incorporate BYD's forefront technologies, forward-thinking design philosophy, and vertically integrated supply chain system. This concerted effort aims to enhance each vehicle with unique and customized potentials.

During the event, BYD introduced the DMO platform, marking a substantial departure from conventional gasoline engines. This platform propels the FANGCHENGBAO vehicles, offering a revolutionary off-road encounter, while also emphasizing energy efficiency and endowing every user with cutting-edge technology.
The DMO merges BYD's innovative Non-Load-Bearing Frame specifically designed for hybrids with a specialized architecture tailored for off-road conditions. This fusion leverages BYD's proficiency in high-performance chassis, intelligent electric four-wheel drive, and off-road powertrains. Consequently, the DMO can achieve an equilibrium between vehicle safety, robust off-road capabilities, and energy efficiency, said the automaker.

In contrast to conventional alterations that lead to weight gain and heightened rollover hazards, the DMO ingeniously integrates the Blade Battery and high-strength steel frame, evolving towards the Cell to Chassis (CTC) technology. This innovation not only guarantees battery safety in extreme off-road situations but also substantially enhances the overall safety of the vehicle.
Besides, the DMO platform also showcases attributes such as the longitudinal EHS electric hybrid system and an industry-pioneering off-road rear-drive powertrain, alongside the Xiaoyun longitudinal high-performance engine. This combination results in an impressive system power exceeding 500kW and an unparalleled traction capability of 32,000N. Moreover, DMO-based vehicles employ intelligent torque control technology to minimize the turning radius to a mere 3.4 meters. Thanks to its potent drive and precise electronic control, users can effortlessly navigate through challenging landscapes like swampy terrains, rugged mountains, gravel-laden slopes, and various other demanding terrains. Enhanced with three Differential Locks, drivers can seamlessly transition to low-speed gear tailored for off-road scenarios with a simple button press.
In addition, constructed upon this groundbreaking architecture, DMO integrates a double-wishbone independent suspension at both front and rear, which, when combined with the DiSus-P Hydraulic Body Control System, ensures SUV-level comfort even across demanding terrains. The platform attains a remarkable 35% reduction in fuel consumption compared to conventional gasoline-powered off-road vehicles.

Apart from the BAO 5, BYD also unveiled a fire new concept, the BAO 8 (named SUPER 8). The company noted the BAO 8 presents the brand's forward-looking perspective on off-road SUVs. Drawing inspiration from science fiction battlegrounds, this design guarantees a sturdy integration and heightened protection, instilling a sense of confidence in drivers.
Moreover, initial particulars regarding the BAO 3 were unveiled at the same time, suggesting an appealing model tailored for various audience with a spirited and playful essence.
In the near future, FANGCHENGBAO has its sights on exploring arenas like off-road SUVs and sports cars, where conventional gasoline vehicles currently hold sway.
For the sake of maintaining uniform service quality and an unvarying experience, FANGCHENGBAO is poised to embrace a Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) approach during the initial phase within the Chinese market. The goal is to extend its reach to 60 first and second-tier cities by 2024.
