BYD’s Yangwang U8 Premium Edition goes on sale, priced at 1.098 million yuan

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 20, 2023, the highly anticipated BYD Yangwang U8 off-road SUV's Premium Edition officially hit the market with an official guidance price of 1.098 million yuan.

The Yangwang U8 boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 5,319mm in length, 2,050mm in width, and 1,930mm in height, with a substantial wheelbase of 3,050mm. Its front fascia showcases the "Time Gate" family design, with a mesmerizing array of tiny matrix dots adorning the logo, resembling distant celestial bodies. The headlights, designed with the theme of "Interstellar Passage," feature dense diamond-shaped light particles as the lighting elements. This design synergy not only exudes a sense of technology and futurism but also enhances recognition, especially when driving at night.

Moving to the side, the vehicle maintains a rugged and robust profile, equipped with LiDAR, cameras, and side marker lights. 

The rear of the Yangwang U8 retains the same bold design language, with taillights echoing the square aesthetics of the headlights, still embracing the "Interstellar Passage" theme.

Inside, the Yangwang U8 incorporates a wealth of Chinese traditional elements, evident in details like the speaker grille design inspired by traditional window lattice patterns. The U8 features the Dynaudio Evidence Series Hi-End audio system, consisting of 22 precisely placed speakers. This flagship Hi-End speaker system, developed in collaboration with BYD, delivers 3D immersive sound, ensuring top-tier audio experiences for every passenger. The system also offers customization tailored to the U8's acoustic structure and waterproof requirements.

The cabin design of the Yangwang U8 draws inspiration from cosmic rings, skillfully employing multiple curves to create a sense of strong embrace while integrating smart technology. At the center of the front cabin lies a 12.8-inch curved display, combining ultimate luxury design with cutting-edge manufacturing. The OLED flexible curved screen with an R800 curvature offers outstanding contrast and vibrant colors. With a 37° optimal tilt angle, every operation feels intuitive.

The dual 23.6-inch longitudinal screens for the driver and front passenger and the 70-inch AR-HUD span from behind the central 12.8-inch display, providing a borderless immersive experience. Furthermore, the rear passengers enjoy two 12.8-inch floating screens, enabling real-time sharing of entertainment across different seats. The U8 also comes equipped with 127-color ambient lighting, an onboard refrigerator, and an active fragrance system.

In terms of seating, both front and rear seats are upholstered in premium Nappa leather with fine texture and a warm touch, featuring heating, ventilation, memory, massage, and more. The intelligent dynamic seats can adjust the side wings based on real-time road conditions, providing robust lumbar and back support, even during off-road adventures.

The U8 Premium Edition packs a whopping 1,200 horsepower, it can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. The precise torque vectoring on each wheel ensures stability even during a tire blowout, pushing the boundaries of active automotive safety.

The e4 Platform enables independent control of all four motors, deep integration of vehicle perception, and precise vector control of vehicle stability. It monitors the vehicle's posture in real-time, combining a central computing platform, distributed controllers, and cloud data feedback to achieve precise control of wheel speed and torque, enhancing vehicle safety.

Thanks to the e4 Platform, the Yangwang U8 Premium Edition can handle extreme scenarios such as snow-covered terrain, desert sands, and deep waters. In urban environments, it can perform 360-degree tank turn, improving user control of the vehicle. In the event of a high-speed tire blowout, the platform rapidly adjusts individual wheel torque to maintain vehicle stability, preventing loss of control. 

In terms of range, the Yangwang U8 Premium Edition features BYD’s Blade batteries with a maximum capacity of 49.05 kWh. In the 30% to 80% state of charge range, the vehicle supports DC fast charging with a minimum charging time of just 18 minutes. The combined range exceeds 1,000km, with a range of up to 180 kilometers on battery power alone.

The U8 Premium Edition is equipped with the DiSus-P intelligent hydraulic body control system, comprising nine modules, including suspension motor pump, four-wheel drive module, posture control module, and the DiSus intelligent computing center. The system adapts dampening and stiffness, offering a perception range of 150 meters. The four-wheel height adjustment allows easy navigation of icy and sandy terrains.

Thanks to the robust power and precise control offered by the e4 platform, the Yangwang U8 becomes the world's first production vehicle with the emergency floating mode, capable of precise propulsion in water with regular tires. The development of emergency floating technology ensures that the vehicle can activate its water-floating ability like an airbag in scenarios such as heavy rainfall and off-road water encounters, providing passive safety to the user. This passive triggering mechanism utilizes multiple sensors to monitor water depth, vehicle posture, wheel slip status, and more. Upon meeting the criteria for water floating, it automatically activates emergency floating.

BYD has announced that the Yangwang U8's entire series will come standard with the emergency floating capability.
