Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 18, BYD launched its first 4.5-tonne city logistics light-duty truck, the T5, power by its Dual Mode (DM) technology. Simultaneously, its smart new energy truck production factory in Huai’an city, Jiangsu province, was also unveiled.

Tian Chunlong, President of the Commercial Vehicle Unit of BYD, gave an introduction to BYD's global first-ever intelligent truck factory. Currently, the Huai'an Truck Smart Factory is planned to have an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles. It has introduced robotics for automated production in five major production processes: stamping, welding, painting, frame, and assembly, with each of the main lines achieving 100% automation. The factory adopts flexible production lines that cater to heavy-duty, light-duty, and micro-vehicles, ensuring it meets various market demands.

The T5 hybrid light truck inherits BYD's 15 years of hybrid technology R&D genes and is the first to feature DM technology, according to BYD. It is equipped with a 1.5T hybrid-specific engine, achieving a peak thermal efficiency of 41%. With a combined urban fuel consumption of 9.2 liters per 100 kilometers, the synergy between fuel and electricity is remarkable. It features the hybrid-specific blade battery with direct cooling technology, ensuring excellent battery life. The truck incorporates the world's first flat-wire motor integrated bridge with a peak power of 150kW and an acceleration time of just 5.5 seconds from 0 to 50 km/h.

The T5 truck adopts an European-standard cabin and a high-strength steel body. Its entire lineup comes with electronic stability control, X-EPS electric power steering, and a rear radar system as standard features.

The new vehicle features an EPB electronic handbrake and a knob-style gearshift, making transport easier. The vehicle's aerodynamic resistance leads the industry, with a rating as low as 0.42cd. It comes equipped with the DiLink infotainment system, integrating various apps for efficient order management. An exclusive app for business users has been developed, offering vehicle management, maintenance, and service integration to achieve fleet management efficiency.

BYD states that the first-half competition in the commercial vehicle industry has seen the electrification for public services. BYD has taken the lead in driving the global trend toward electrifying public transportation. With ever-upgrading automotive emission standards, rising operating costs for internal combustion engine vehicles, and favorable government policies, electrification for truck is becoming the second half of the strategic deployment for new energy commercial vehicles.

To date, BYD has delivered over 100,000 new energy commercial vehicles worldwide, covering more than 400 cities in over 70 countries and regions across six continents.
