CATL, Datong city team up on green manufacturing, renewable energy investment, transportation electrification

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In a pivotal move towards advancing the "dual-carbon" goals, Chinese power battery giant CATL signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the municipal government of Datong city, Shanxi province on December 20, according to a post on the WeChat account "Datong Daily".

According to the agreement, both parties will collaborate on green manufacturing of new energy products, investment in renewable energy development, electrification of transportation, and infrastructure construction. The aim is to position Datong as the country's first model city for electric heavy-duty trucks with a complete industrial ecosystem and a national demonstration city for achieving carbon emission peak and carbon neutrality.

Lu Dongliang, Party secretary of Datong city, emphasized Datong's firm commitment to transformation and development. The city is actively diversifying its focus into new areas such as technology (advanced manufacturing), energy, agriculture, cultural tourism, and consumption. It concurrently promotes the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and the development of emerging industries. Datong continues to deepen comprehensive reform pilot projects in energy revolution, adjusting and optimizing the energy supply structure, accelerating the integrated development of "wind, solar, thermal, and energy storage" and “generation, grid, load, and energy storage”.

Mr. Lu added that CATL, as a leading enterprise in the new energy sector, offers a solid foundation and extensive opportunities for cooperation with Datong. The signing of this agreement is seen as an opportunity to further expand cooperation, particularly in the development of the electrified transportation system, the entire industrial chain of electric heavy-duty trucks, advanced technology research and application in the field of new energy, and recycling and utilization of renewable resources. The goal is to attract and drive more upstream and downstream enterprises to align their strategies, achieving mutually beneficial development.

Li Ping, Vice Chairman of CATL, expressed CATL's strong emphasis on the collaboration with Datong city. Leveraging CATL's advantages in cutting-edge technology and green manufacturing in the new energy industry, the company aims to strengthen collaboration on a larger scale, in wider fields, and at a deeper level. The focus is on actively promoting the implementation of the strategic cooperation agreement, supporting Datong in deepening energy revolution and promoting green and low-carbon development.
