Tesla Shanghai Megafactory set to complete trial production by end of 2024
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On March 21, during the first anniversary press conference of the Shanghai (Neobay) Future Industrial Pilot Zone, Lu Yu, the director of the High Technology Department of the Lingang New Area Management Committee, announced that Tesla's Megapack project in Shanghai is expected to complete trial production within the year, aiming for a production scale of nearly 40GWh.
This announcement comes as part of Shanghai's broader efforts to pioneer future industries, with the Lingang Special Area successfully recruiting its first batch of aggregators to enhance the precision response of virtual power plants. Additionally, the region is pushing forward with technological breakthroughs, focusing on energy innovation. This includes pre-research on new nuclear fusion energy system technologies and the development of Tokamak devices capable of controlled, continuous nuclear fusion, furthering the pursuit of controlled nuclear fusion as the ultimate energy source.
Tesla's Shanghai Megafactory is built to produce Tesla's large commercial energy storage batteries, the Megapacks, with production slated to begin in the second quarter of 2024. Initially, the factory is expected to produce 10,000 commercial energy storage batteries annually, nearing a storage scale of 40GWh, and aims to serve the global market.
