Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 4, Hesai Technology announced that it had secured another LiDAR order from U.S. autonomous driving company Motional, a joint venture between vehicle manufacturing leader Hyundai Motor Group and automotive technology expert Aptiv, supplying sensors for the latter's all-electric IONIQ 5 robotaxi fleet. Each vehicle will be equipped with four Hesai LiDAR units, further cementing the Chinese supplier's role in the global self-driving ecosystem.

With customers including Baidu Apollo, Pony.ai, and WeRide, Hesai now counts eight of the world's top ten robotaxi developers among its clients, underscoring its dominance in the advanced sensor market.

The company offers one of the industry's broadest LiDAR portfolios, spanning automotive-grade products such as the AT128, AT512, ATX, ET25, AT1440, ETX, and FTX, along with the JT series tailored for robotics and industrial applications.

Among them, the ETX stands out as a long-range, automotive-grade LiDAR designed for Level 3 conditional autonomous driving. It is capable of detecting objects up to 400 meters away at 10% reflectivity, while its compact 32 mm height allows discreet integration behind the windshield. Hesai is expected to formally unveil its in-cabin ETX integration solution at the upcoming IAA Mobility show, where it will also showcase real-time point cloud demonstrations for the first time.

According to Hesai's latest semi-annual report, the company shipped 547,913 LiDAR units in the first six months of 2025—a surge of 276.2% year-on-year and already surpassing its total deliveries for all of 2024. In the second quarter alone, it secured design wins from nine leading automakers covering 20 vehicle models, with production ramp-ups scheduled between 2025 and 2026.

Its robotics-focused JT series has also seen strong uptake, surpassing 100,000-unit deliveries in less than five months since launch.
