Car and City: January 2022 registrations of NIO models

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In January 2022, NIO's new vehicle registrations stood at 10,178 units, surging 41.5% from the previous year, while edging down 2.9% from the previous month, according to the data compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute.

In terms of Jan. registrations of locally-built new energy passenger vehicles (NEPVs), NIO ranked tenth among all auto brands in China, following its startup rivals XPeng (6th) and Li Auto (7th).

Despite the month-on-month decrease in NIO's overall registrations, the monthly volume of the ES6 still hit a new high of 5,525 units in January. Among homemade NEPV models in China, the ES6 ranked 17th by Jan. registrations, moving up 10 spots compared to December 2021.

Regarding the Jan. registrations of the ES6, Shanghai outperformed other cities on the Chinese mainland. The other three first-tier cities, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou, were all on the top 10 cities list, but none of them entered the top 3 rankings. Notably, four cities (Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou and Jinhua) among the top 10 rankings were from Zhejiang province.

In January, the monthly registrations of the EC6 climbed 4.3% and 6.8% over the year-ago period and the previous month respectively. By the end of Jan. 2022, the NIO's third production model had recorded 37,682 units in cumulative registrations.

By the Jan. registrations of the EC6, the top five cities were Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Chengdu, accounting for 35% of the model's total registrations nationwide. Shenzhen ranked 6th with 129 EC6s registered. China's capital Beijing failed to enter the top 10 rankings.

The ES8 recorded a 41% month-over-month plunge in Jan. registrations, which directly led to the downturn in the startup's overall registrations.

Apart from Shanghai, other cities on the Chinese mainland all recorded an ES8 registration volume below 200 units in January. Hefei, where the model is produced, ranked 9th with 53 ES8s registered.

Although the scale delivery has not kicked off yet, a total of 31 ET7s were registered in January with Shanghai as the sole buying city.
