Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Recently, a ship loaded with 500 BYD ATTO 3s has departed from Shanghai Port for Malaysia, according to a post on BYD’s WeChat account.

Upon the arrival, BYD will deliver the vehicles to end users, offering Malaysian consumers an a fresh new energy vehicle (NEV) experience.

It took BYD only one month to start shipment since the ATTO 3 hit the market in Malaysia, demonstrating the company’s powerful supply chain and robust in-house production capacity.

As a major economy in Southeast Asia, which is one of the most promising markets for NEVs in the world, Malaysia holds a tempting prospect for the NEV industry with a rapid growth in NEV sales. The Malaysian government announced the other day the plan to extend tax incentives on NEVs and boost low-carbon mobility. It expects to see 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points installed across the country by 2025 and plans to launch more incentives to drive EV sales.

Prior to the latest shipment, BYD has made multiple preparations to develop its Malaysian market. On Sept. 28, 2022, BYD claimed it signed an agreement to appoint Sime Darby Motors as the exclusive distributor of its passenger vehicles (PVs) in Malaysia. On Dec. 8, the Chinese NEV manufacturer announced its official entry into the Malaysian PV market with the BYD ATTO 3 launched at the same time.

BYD sold 1,863,494 NEVs through 2022, representing a 208.64% year-on-year surge. As BYD’s first PV model targeting the global market, the ATTO 3 recorded an export volume of 40,014 units last year.
