Upon completion of the construction, the annual capacity of XPeng's Zhaoqing manufacturing base will be increased to 200,000 from the current 100,000 vehicles. According to the startup, the building of the second-phase project will be offered fiscal and land supports from Zhaoqing Municipal Government.
After the foundation-laying in December 2017, the Zhaoqing factory started operation in May 2020. The factory's capacity has reached up to 500 to 700 vehicles per day in August 2021, a robust growth from 100 to 200 units per month for the very beginning period, according to Xia Heng, co-founder and president of XPeng.
In May 2020, XPeng announced it had received the official production license from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for its first self-built plant, namely, the Zhaoqing plant.
The startup also builds self-owned factories in Guangzhou and Wuhan. Construction of the Wuhan-based one commenced on July 31. The Wuhan factory will have an annual capacity of 100,000 new vehicles and is expected to generate a production value of over 30 billion yuan ($4.631 billion) per year.
